Hiking

The best thing about being an overweight, out-of-shape, smoker who loves to hike is this: I have to hike slowly.
I hike in the southern Appalachians (northern Georgia and southern North Carolina) on the Appalachian Trail and the surrounding areas. Much to the frustration of my hiking companion, Amazing Grace the Wonder Dog, hiking slowly gives me time to see all the wondrous and beautiful vistas, plants, and rock formations that most speed hikers pass by without a second glance. What is the purpose in hiking the 2,000 mile long Appalachian Trail if one is not going to take the time to look around and be awed? The photos featured here are some of the amazing things I have seen while hiking. Some of these photos were taken in the rain, so I apologize if the quality of the photos is not “up to par”. Nevertheless, I hope you enjoy them and maybe see some of the sights you hiked right past without noticing.
